'No Picnic on Mount Kenya', The Book

www.reachsummit.com |Climb Mt Kenya at affordable price

I read that book few year ago when I was on my way to Mt Kilimanjaro. A very refreshing story about a very reckless mission: 3 detainees intend to climb Mt Kenya after they escape their camp in Africa during the 2WW. Descriptions are very realistic and the climbing challenge is pushing those guys to their limits.

A book to recommend, easy to read and a great adventure to discover! It is amazing how a book can drive yourself into some decisions you wouldn't have made before. I barely knew Mt Kenya before I read the book, I decided to get there to see ... It was a fantastic experience. Read more here >

Summary from Wikipedia: Detained at P.O.W. Camp 354 near Nanyuki, Kenya, Felice Benuzzi, together with Dr. Giovanni Balletto and Enzo Barsotti, escaped in January 1943 and climbed Mt Kenya with improvised equipment and sparse rations, two of them reaching the Grand Gendarme high up the NW ridge. After an eventful 18-day period on the mountain, and to the astonishment of the British commander, the three adventurers broke back into Camp 354. As reward for their exploit, they each received 28 days in solitary confinement.
